2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup | India Wins Another Title

2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup | India Wins Another Title

On 29th June, Saturday, unbeaten India grabbed the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa with 7 runs.

This was India’s second time winning the T20 World Cup. Their first victory came in 2007 in the first edition of the T20 Cricket World Cup.

India’s exceptional batting, bowling, and fielding helped them cross the finish line. India won the toss and chose to bat first.

After losing their skipper’s wicket, India’s chances of victory declined for a brief moment, but then the legendary Virat Kohli took the matters into his own hands.

His 76 off 59 balls played the role of an anchor in the midst of a sinking batting lineup. Apart from Kohli, only Shivam Dube and Axar Patel scored in double digits.

South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each, whereas Kagiso Rabada only managed to take one wicket.

India’s score at the end of the first innings was 176/7, a target seemingly not that high, but ended up helping them in winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen scored 52 off 27, the highest score from their side. Despite a good start, the Indian pacers got the best of the Proteas batting lineup.

All rounder Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for 20 runs in his 3 overs spell and the great Jasprit Bumrah, who also became the player of the tournament took 2 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs spell.

Medium pacer Arshdeep Singh assisted his seniors in ending the game as he took two wickets for 20 runs in his 4 overs spell.

Thus, unbeaten South Africa suffered from their first defeat in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and that too, in the final.

It was quite a sad day for the Proteas as this was their first time qualifying for a T20 World Cup final.

India’s CWC 2024 victory brought over some major announcements with it. Indian World Cup winning skipper, Rohit Sharma, and legendary batsman, Virat Kohli, announced their retirement from the shortest format of cricket.

This decision made the Indian victory a hundred times more special and cherishable.

2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was a roller coaster ride. Some teams unlocked milestones, whereas others were left feeling bereft.

For all the teams who couldn’t achieve their desired result, remember, there’s always a next time!
