Virat Kohli & Sam Konstas Shoulder Barge: Kohli Showcasing Dominance On Teen Debutant

Virat Kohli & Sam Konstas Shoulder Barge: Kohli Showcasing Dominance On Teen Debutant

The Australia vs India 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy saw an eventful first day. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first.

Australian teen batsman Sam Konstas made his debut into the side and opened the innings along with regular opener Usman Khawaja.

The 19-year-old debutant replaced Nathan McSweeney in the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test.

Konstas’ debut was nothing short of brilliant and dreamy as he scored a breathtaking half century in his maiden test innings that too against a strong side like India.

Jasprit Bumrah, who had been an inescapable element of India's bowling line up in the last three tests was met with Sam Konstas hitting shots off his balls left, right, and center.

But what truly made this India vs Australia 4th test day 1 eventful was the physical altercation between Kohli and Sam.

Virat Kohli who’s also infamous for having an intense and aggressive nature pushed the Australian debutant opener in between overs.

The two players also had a verbal exchange before the umpires intervened to settle things down. Moments before this, Sam Konstas had already received a mouthful from Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj.

Several former cricketers have openly criticized Virat Kohli for his inappropriate mid-match conduct with the Australian youngster.

Ricky Ponting, former Australian captain, blamed ace Indian batsman Kohli for “instigating” the entire incident.

“Look at the way Virat walks. Virat walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation - no doubt in my mind whatsoever,” Ponting stated.

“I have no doubt that the umpires and the referee will have a good look at that.”

However, the person on the other side of this altercation, Sam Konstas, has dismissed the entire incident saying that emotions got the best of him and Kohli.

“I think the emotions got to both of us. I didn’t quite realise, I was doing my gloves and then a little shoulder charge. It happens, it’s cricket,” stated Sam.

Was it Kohli’s aggressiveness that put him in a position like that or was it Konstas’ brilliant knock that brought out the sore loser side of Virat Kohli?
