Pakistan Drop To Lowest Test Rankings In 60 Years

Pakistan Drop To Lowest Test Rankings In 60 Years

The Pakistan test cricket team led by Shan Masood encountered a terrible loss at the hands of Bangladesh for the first time in history.

Pakistan’s series loss to Bangladesh has pushed them down to the lowest ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings since 1965.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test match to complete the clean sweep and win their first-ever series against the Men in Green. The tourists had won the first Test by a whopping margin of 10 wickets.

The 2-0 series loss resulted in Pakistan team’s ranking to drop by 2 places from 6th to 8th with 66 rating points.

“This is the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the Test rankings table since 1965, barring a brief period where they did not have a place in the rankings due to an insufficient number of matches,” the ICC press release stated.

On the other hand, Bangladesh gained 13 rating points, but they are still sitting on the 9th spot in ICC Men’s Test Team rankings.

Due to Pakistan team’s downward movement in the rankings list, both Sri Lanka and West Indies have moved one place up to claim the 6th and 7th position respectively.

“Extremely disappointed, we were excited for the home season but the story has been the same as Australia,” Pakistan skipper Shan Masood said after the loss in the second Test to Bangladesh.

“We have not learnt our lessons. We thought we were playing good cricket in Australia but not doing the job, that’s something we need to work on.”
