Joe Root Returns: England's ODI Squad Gets a Boost for the Champions Trophy

Joe Root Returns: England's ODI Squad Gets a Boost for the Champions Trophy

On Sunday, the English and Wales Cricket Board officially announced the return of test star player Joe Root to England's ODI squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Root has been the most important member of England’s test squad and has been the no.1 test player according to ICC test batting rankings

It’s worth noting that Joe Root has not played an ODI match since the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Alongside Root, Jos Buttler has also returned to the team and will be leading them during the tour of ODI as well as the eight-team mega-event.

On the other hand, England’s all rounder test captain Ben Stokes was not included in the squad owing to a left hamstring injury that he acquired during the England vs New Zealand 3rd test earlier this month.

The England Men’s selection committee named 15-member ODI and T20I squads that will tour India for the white-ball series in January, followed by the Champions Trophy 2025 in February and March.
